For anything to do with the house — the key, the Wi-Fi, something not working, arriving late — send us a message in the Airbnb app. We reply there, and it keeps everything in one thread.
鍵、Wi-Fi、設備の不具合、到着の遅れなど、当施設に関するご連絡はAirbnbアプリのメッセージからお願いいたします。
If it is an emergency, do not wait for a reply. Call 119 or 110 first — the numbers below — and message us afterwards.

Operators can arrange interpretation, but it helps enormously to lead with these three things, slowly and clearly:

- “Kaji” (fire) or “Kyuukyuu” (ambulance) 「火事」か「救急」か Say which one you need first. 最初にどちらかを伝えます。

- What has happened, and to whom 何が起きたか、誰の身に起きたか Then stay on the line. その後は電話を切らずにお待ちください。

If you are not sure whether you need a hospital, Kyoto City runs a telephone advice line, and the prefecture publishes a searchable list of clinics open now, including ones with English-speaking staff.

Earthquakes
地震
Small tremors are common in Japan and almost never cause damage. If one starts:
小さな揺れは日常的で、被害に至ることはほとんどありません。揺れを感じたら：
- Do not run outside. 外に飛び出さないでください。 Falling roof tiles and glass are the main danger. Get under a table or stand in a doorway. 落下物が最も危険です。テーブルの下に入るか、扉の枠の下でお待ちください。
- Turn off any flame or gas. 火の元を止めてください。 Once the shaking stops, not during. 揺れが収まってからで構いません。
- Open a door. 扉を開けてください。 Frames can warp and jam. Keep an exit available. 建具が歪んで開かなくなることがあります。避難経路を確保します。
- Put shoes on before you walk anywhere. 移動前に靴を履いてください。 Broken glass is the most common injury. 破片によるけがが最も多く発生します。
- Check for instructions. 情報を確認してください。 NHK WORLD-JAPAN broadcasts emergency information in English. The Safety tips app gives multilingual alerts. NHK WORLD-JAPANが英語で緊急情報を放送します。「Safety tips」アプリでも多言語で受信できます。
Evacuation site
避難場所
Kyoto City designates evacuation sites by school district, and they are opened only when needed. Rather than print one here that may change, check the city's official map — it works on a phone and shows your nearest site from wherever you are standing.
指定避難所は学区ごとに定められ、必要に応じて開設されます。最新の情報は京都市の公式マップでご確認ください。現在地から最寄りの避難所を確認できます。
Typhoons and heavy rain
台風・大雨
Typhoon season runs roughly from August to October. Warnings are issued well in advance. If one is forecast, close the shutters and windows, stay indoors, and expect trains to stop running — they suspend service before conditions get dangerous, not after.
台風は8〜10月頃に多く発生します。予報が出た場合はシャッターと窓を閉め、屋内でお過ごしください。鉄道は危険になる前に計画運休となります。

Lost property found in the city is handed in to the police, and a surprising amount of it comes back. The nearest police box is Gion Koban, on Shijo Street just east of Yamato-oji — about five minutes on foot. The district station is Higashiyama Police Station (075-525-0110).
市内での落とし物は交番へ届けられます。最寄りは祇園交番（東山区四条通大和大路東入祇園町南側551）、徒歩約5分です。管轄は東山警察署（075-525-0110）。
